Surface Collective Information

custom_colours.jpgVancouver based Surface Collective offers numerous opportunities for you to personalize your wall tatoo. Sizes can be made custom in addition to substituting colours from this chart for the standard colours shown on the product pages. The costs for this are very reasonable, although it will add several weeks to the delivery time of your graphic. Please contact us for further information about these options.

HOW TO APPLY YOUR WALL DECAL

The 6 simple steps of highly effective wall decal application.

  • Paint type: Wall Tattoos adhere best to Semi-Gloss, Satin or Eggshell paint. We do not recommend installing on a surface with flat/matte or high gloss paint.
  • Materials Required: Cleaning Cloth, Scissors, Masking Tape
  • Clean & Dry Make sure the surface is clean and free of dust or cleaning residue. First wipe down with a damp cloth, and allow to dry completely. Any moisture or residue on the surface may prevent your decal from sticking.
  • Set-Up Wall Tattoos are for one-time use only, so take your time choosing the perfect spot. First tape the unpeeled design to the surface with masking tape, step back and have a good look. You can’t change your mind once it’s up on the wall.
    • Cut-Outs: The dotted lines and the tiny little scissors indicate where you need to cut the wall decal, in order to place it as per the design requirements.
    • Piecing it Together: If you see "male" and "female" numbered connector parts on the design, follow them accordingly when planning the placement and installation of your Wall Tattoo. It's easy, and will allow you to place the wall tattoo as per the design requirements.
  • Peel With Care Slowly peel the white backing from the graphic at a 45 degree angle, corner to corner. If some of the graphic doesn’t come off the backing right away, press it down again and give it a quick scratch. (For larger designs, peel off only a portion of the white backing, and then slowly remove the rest as you apply your tattoo to the surface. We recommend you have a friend assist you with the larger designs.)
  • Stick-On Once the Wall Tattoo is off the backing, hold it firmly at the edges so it won't fold in on itself. Position each portion of the tattoo on the surface starting at a corner and slowly smooth the image down flat, until the whole wall decal design piece is stuck firmly to the surface.
  • Apply Pressure. Using a flat edged surface, like a masking tape roll, squeegee or credit card, rub against the wall decal a few times just to make sure your decal is 100% attached, flat and bubble free. Once you are satisfied with the flatness, slowly peel off the translucent tape at 45 degrees, corner to corner. If some of the graphic remain stuck to the translucent layer, just stop & give it a quick scratch to secure it to the wall before peeling again.

How do I remove the decal?   Easy way: Use your fingernails to pry away a corner of the decal & peel away slowly at a 45 degree angle. Easier yet: Take a blow dryer and a pair of tweezers to lift a corner of the decal while aiming the blow-dryer at the same area. The adhesive will release as it gets heated. Continue peeling at a 45 degree angle as you heat the vinyl. Surface Wall Tattoos are for one-time use only. Once removed, wall decals cannot be re-applied.

Will the decal leave a residue, or cause any damage when removed?   The glue that holds the wall decal in place is strong, but not gooey, so there won’t be any remnants left on the surface after removal. But, because we don’t know the condition of all wall surfaces, we don’t guarantee that some paint flecking will not occur. It is possible, but not likely, that you may notice paint flecks on the back of the Wall Tattoos when removed. If so, some minor paint touch up may be required.

Can I put my decal in a bathroom?    Yes- Just make sure the surface where you install your SURFACE Wall Tattoos is completely free of moisture before you apply it.

How long will my wall tattoo last?    If you take care of it, it will last for years. SURFACE Wall Tattoos will last 3 to 5 years in an indoor room, and 2 to 3 years if placed outdoors. Given that direct heat can release the adhesive and may cause the Wall Tattoos to peel up, we recommend that you try to keep your wall decal away from direct sunlight.
